There's so much Right with this book its hard to know where to start. Its fast paced, exciting and has an original premise that grips you and won't let go. You have to keep going so you know what happens next.

There's so much wrong its hard to know where to start. I didn't like the female protagonist, Mia. There's a definite Mary Sue theme and the character is arrogant and unlikable. I had flashbacks to the Anita Blake series that made my flesh crawl. Things that should have been explained were glossed over with one sentence and the romance was rushed and unfulfilling. You never get a true grasp of the main male character--he doesnt have one, that is. He's a cookie cutter vampire trope with the word "vampire" changed to "alien" .

Still an enjoyable read and a very interesting world I want to revisit.

The author has a lot of potential and I hope its realized in later books.

Mia Snow's mission is to rid of the world of evil one alien at a time. Mia Snow is an alien huntress for the New Chicago Police Department. She leads her own elite team of Alien Investigation and Removal agents, and is capable of getting the job done. Mia has witnessed her brother's death at the hands of aliens along with earning her own scars and it leaves Mia determined to rid the planet of these predators. There is now a string of killings happening that have Mia and her partner Dallas chasing down any leads they can find. Due to an unsuspecting act of violence, Dallas is now fighting for his life. Mia has the chance to save Dallas thanks to a sexy stranger. He turns out to be an alien and a murder suspect. Kyrin en Arr, a deadly Arcadian, can heal with his blood and is willing to heal Dallas for a price. He demands Mia surrender to his seduction and give in to their explosive attraction. Mia is walking a fine line. She is now risking not only her badge but her very life. As she becomes closer to Kryin, Mia starts to reevaluate her own stance, her heart, and her shocking past.

Gena is one of my favorite authors but this is not one of my favorite books. I do love how Gena has created a whole new world full of alien life but this book just lacked that certain pop to hold my attention. Mia is a hardcore chick (which I love) and does whatever she wants without fear. Kyrin is a sexy mystery and it's Mia's job to solve that mystery. I liked Kyrin but I felt he could have had more substance. The relationship goes from hate to lust to love and I felt like a had a bit of whiplash. I would have loved to have more of their dynamics shown and more time they spent together. The case Mia is trying to solve is a tricky one with new developments occurring all the time. The problem is, these developments were considered impossible at one time. Danger is coming hard and fast, while people are dying, and Mia is the only one who can stop the carnage and save everyone's lives including her own. Mia's past also poses a mystery and it's a big one. This is a good book but it's just not my favorite. Gena is still a wonderful author and will remain one of my favorites ) Warning adult content and violence.
Overall I liked the story, it was a bit wordy and slow in some parts but it would pick up and when it did, it was good. Lots of action, and good plot. I will say this, initially, Mia upset me, she comes off as entitled, obnoxious and narcissistic and I almost stopped reading but by the time I got about halfway she started to change and the story picked up.

You can tell Gena has come a long way with her writing, this being an earlier released book.
Can this woman write or what?! Gena Showalter is most definitely, and without a doubt, THE ISH!!

This book was AMAZING!! I absolutely did not want it to end. Mia Snow has had a rough childhood, but turned out to be such a kick-ass heroine! She's smart, pretty, strong willed and doesn't take crap from anyone. Then there's Kyrin... the tall, handsome, also smart alien. These two are like oil and vinegar fine on their own, but sooo much better together.

This book had so many twists I didn't know what to do with myself. It's nuts (in the most awesome way possible) when you think something is going to go one way, then all of a sudden BAM! You're hit with some other thing... smh... I had to reread a few parts just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. (Love it when that happens...)

Anywho, I'm eager to see what else is in store in the rest of the series. Hopefully there's more of Mia and the halflings.
