Combines every romantic suspense element I love: brooding billionaire with a dark secret, contemporary Gothic flavor, the FBI, and of course, the dark web.

This book was a sexy update of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, featuring a heroine who's been made a devil's deal. Get close to criminal billionaire Mark Donahue and get the evidence to put him away for good, and secure the release of her brother from prison, or fail and see his sentence extended. Mark's wounded heart is an easy target--our heroine, Wren, is a perfect doppelganger for Mark's late wife Johanna, whom Mark is adamant he did not murder.

As another woman disappears and the FBI gets ready to pull the plug on the operation that could have won Wren's brother’s release, Mark offers Wren a Faustian deal of his own, a way she can save Mark and her brother both: Become Johanna for him. 24/7 roleplay, under the watchful gaze of the enormous canvas pictures of the late Johanna in the bedroom that used to be hers. Wren would wear Johanna’s clothes, use her soaps, be tied in her leather straps, be called by her name. In return, for every year she spends with Mark, the billionaire cyber-genius will get her brother out two years early. Five years and he'll be scot-free.

But Wren has too much in common with Johanna, who was cheating on Mark with his thrill-seeking brother Davis. Davis, infuriating, perfect Davis, calls Wren “Horsey” but at least he doesn’t call her Johanna. He warns her to stay away from Mark, lest what happened to Johanna happen to her. The love triangle snuck up on me; I wasn't looking for it, but it was deeply satisfying.

I couldn’t put down this delicious subversion of the bad boy billionaire romance. Is Mark dangerous? You better believe it. And wicked sexy; there's no denying it.

Highly recommended.

DarkWeb edition by Talia Vines Romance eBooks Reviews

When Wren is approached by the FBI, she has to take them up on their proposition if she wants to help her brother, who's currently in prison. She had no idea that in doing so, her life will irrevocably change. All Wren has to do is "run into" Mark and let her eerily similar appearance to his dead wife do the rest. Of course, best laid plans and all that...

DarkWeb is a twisty mystery with a little romance thrown in. It's full of surprises, intrigue and a huge reveal toward the end. I felt for Wren, boy did I. She had no idea when she agreed to help the FBI which would in turn help her brother, that her life would just get so twisted up by Mark, his brother and the secrets Mark was keeping. If you like romantic suspense, mysteries or just plain ol' thrillers, you really should have DarkWeb on your TBR list.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy via Hidden Gems Books.
I devoured the first half or so of this mystery/suspense book - not wanting to put it down. Somewhere after that point the captivating twists and turns got to be a little too much for me and I wasn't quite as enamored but I still enjoyed the book very much overall. Though some may "solve' the main mystery before the end (I did, for the record) there are still surprises to be had even after you do, and the details of how things wrap up are not to be missed. This book is very well-written and I will definitely be interested in any other books this author releases in the future.

I'm trying to be as vague as possible in my review - I went back and read the blurb after I finished the book and I think it is ok to read that (sometimes mystery blurbs give away too much) but I think people should probably try to avoid reviews for this book in case of spoilers as I think the reading experience will be better the less you know going in. Suffice to say if you like mystery/crime novels or shows/movies (with some romance woven in) then you will like this book.

I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily writing a review.
Received for an honest review. This was a pretty intense read. It kept me guessing till the very end. Every time you think you have it figured out it throws something else at you. Between Tribeca, Davis, and Mark, and then Wren unsure of her own actions it became a tangled web of lies, deceit, and a basic who done it. Wren was a very interesting character, extremely damaged and at times barely hanging on. Even though I was screaming at her at times to not give in, it was written in such a way, I completely understood why Wren did the things she did. She was so bogged down by her own grief she seemed to splinter from reality at times, and left the reader trying to navigate through her pain and inner monologue, while also trying to untangle the lies from the truth and figure out who the true monsters were. Everyone is suspect. Including Wren. I very much enjoyed this book. It was very well written and gave just enough to make those pages keep turning. I would have liked slightly more at the end. Wren was so caught up in her own head at times it did feel a little confusing, but it all came together in the end. Would definitely recommend this and will most likely be checking out this authors other work.
Such a twisted plot, but I loved it! Suspected some things coming but not all. A very good, exciting read.
i love this author's voice!! its so fresh, interesting, funny, and complex! the love story takes some interesting turns that make this story very unique. i couldn't put it down and then i reread it. ill definitely look for more books from this author!
I read a lot of romance and I love this! It is different in a great way, a blend of romance and intrigue with a modern slant. Imagine Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets 50 Shades of Gray. The writing style is fresh and in first person. No worn out stereotypes here.
